Domstern
Behind the walls of a protected historical monument dating from the 1890`s, Hotel Domstern Cologne offers a recently renovated interior with 16 comfortably furnished rooms.
Our place is located in a quiet sidestreet in a residential area still only a few minutes from the city center.
Hotel Domstern is a nonsmoking venue! All rooms and public areas are completely smoke free.
Our guests appreciate especially the personal atmosphere of our house. They enjoy 3 star quality and comfort but the flair and individuality, that you would rather expect in a bed & breakfast or boutique hotel.
As a guest in our house you will reach all major sights of Cologne easily on foot!
The historical city center along the Rhine riverbank with many bars and restaurants, Cologne cathedral and other important romanesque churches, the pedestrian zone with the main shopping area (Hohe Straße and Schildergasse) with interesting shops and small Cafés, but also the opera house, musical theatre and the world famous Philharmonie as well as several museums can be reached within a few minutes walk!
Cologne`s trade fair grounds KoelnMesse is just a 2 minute train ride from the nearby main station, or can be reached by a 20 minute walk or by ferryboat!
By the way you can also reach the fair grounds in Düsseldorf easily with fast and convenient train connections.
Because of its central yet quiet location our city hotel Domstern offers a perfect base for your stay in the very heart of Cologne (be it private or on a business trip)!
News and information about Hotel Domstern and our new Hotel & Café Stern am Rathaus can be found in our blog.
Since December 2010 we run a second place in Cologne: „Hotel & Café Stern am Rathaus“, directly in the historic city center near the cityhall!
Breakfast
Our breakfast buffet features regional products from Cologne, rolls, cheeses and sausages, farm fresh eggs, honey, muesli and cereals, fresh fruit and juices.
Several of the products are homemade, like our very popular fresh baked bread, jam and fruit salad, as well as probiotic yoghurt, accompanied by daily changing specialities from different European regions!
Our Swiss coffeemaker prepares delicious coffee specialities from organic fair trade coffee, like Cappuccino, Latte macchiatto, and even hot chocolate with the simple push of a button.
The buffet is available from 7 am until 10.30 am during the week, and until 11.00 am during the weekend!
How to get the most out of your stay
As a guest with us here at Domstern hotel Cologne, you will experience friendly and outstanding personal service!
- Weather forecast, daily schedule and recommendations concerning museums, churches and excursions can be found in our daily leaflet at your breakfast table!
- At the front desk we`ll do our best to help you plan your day in Cologne. We have prepared printouts and maps to give you an idea about Cologne city walks and excursions, churches, theatre and arts, exhibitions and culture.
- Jork from our front desk team has prepared a map with information on typical Koelsch breweries as well as nice restaurants in the neighbourhood, that will guide you to places beyond the well known “Altstadt“.
- What would Cologne be without its churches? Michael worked in the information center of Cologne cathedral before his “hotel carreer“, and he is more than happy to help with any questions concerning (guided) tours of the cathedral or other famous Cologne churches.
- Heidrun is our “theatre specialist“ working as an actress herself in her main career (winning the Cologne theatre awards twice) she doesn`t only know what`s on in the big houses but can recommend also smaller theatres and performances worth visiting.
- Marcel who ran an art gallery before working for us, has prepared everything you need to know about museums and exhibitions in the city in a convenient folder that you can easily take with you so you will not miss that interesting exposition or that much talked about performance.
- Manfred and Michael love to explore the surroundings of the city on foot, by bike or train. They love to share their favourite places within and outside the city boundaries.
Our personal service promise
Our success is based on individual and exceptional service! Even if our small hotel has “only“ got 3 stars we have the ambition to compete with all those big name hotels here in Cologne, fulfilling our guests wishes and needs at any time;
- be it tickets for a soccer game or an exhibition,
- printing out your boarding pass for the flight back home,
- an extra pillow or blanket for your room,
- transfer service from or to the airport,
- flowers upon arrival,
- or champagne for breakfast?
You name it and we`ll do our very best to make it possible! No matter if it is a simple request or a tough challenge, our goal is to fulfill your wishes and make your stay with us perfect. This dedication to personal service has constantly been rewarded by our guests.
Our customers feedback and reviews earned us several awards and prizes for example, we received the travellers choice award 2010 and 2011 Certificate of Excellence from tripadvisor, and have been a top rated hotel with hotel.info as well as receiving a Top 3 stars hotel award from trivago. Find out here what our guests say and leave your own feedback after your stay!
Gayfriendly hotel – We are family!
Cologne is the city with one of the biggest gay communities in Germany and has a lot to offer for its more than 100.000 gay and lesbian citizens! Of course this makes the city also very attractive to its guests. Not only during gay pride (Christopher Street Day) taking place the first weekend in July, but all year round Cologne offers an interesting and diverse program for its gay, lesbian and transgender visitors.
Here at Domstern you will find your perfect base for exploring the city and the gay scene.
Of course we provide all necessary information like gaymaps and monthly schedules and our front desk team will gladly answer your questions concerning bars and clubs and recommend “in“ places to see and explore.
By the way another great time to come to Germanys “gay capital“ is carnival.
Not only gays and friends go crazy during this period, the whole city celebrates a big party and it won`t take long before you find new friends and sing along one of those traditional Cologne Carnival hits.
Of course we party as well and Domstern is a proud sponsor of 2 big carneval events:
he gay “Kattwinkelsitzung“ (produced from the staff and crew of Kattwinkel, a nice gay neighbourhood bar just around the corner from Domstern)
and the lesbian “Schnittchensitzung“ both are real highlights of the gay/lesbian carnival and worth a visit!
More information about gay life in the city can be found here:
